Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Spec ("we", "us", "our") is a mobile application for car enthusiasts to document builds, connect with the community, and buy or sell parts. Our website is thespec.app. Contact us at hello@thespec.app.

2. What we collect and why

Account information

When you create an account we collect your email address. We use it to authenticate you, send password-reset emails, and notify you about your account. We do not sell your email address.

Profile and content

Any information you choose to add to your profile — display name, bio, profile photo, vehicle details, build photos, posts, comments, marketplace listings — is stored on our servers. You control what you share.

Push notification tokens

If you grant notification permission, we store a device token issued by Expo's push service. We use it only to deliver in-app notifications (follows, reactions, replies, event reminders). You can revoke permission in your device settings or disable individual notification types in the app.

Location

If you grant location permission, we use your approximate location to surface nearby events and marketplace listings. We do not store your precise GPS coordinates. Location is only accessed while you are actively using the app and only if you have granted permission.

Usage data

We collect basic analytics — screens viewed, features used, errors — to improve the app. This data is aggregated and not linked to your identity.

3. How we store your data

Your data is stored with Supabase, which provides our database and file storage hosted on AWS infrastructure. Photos and media are stored in Supabase Storage. Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth. See Supabase's privacy policy for their data practices.

4. Third-party services

• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage
• Expo Push Service — delivers push notifications to your device
• Apple / Google — app distribution and in-app purchases (if applicable)

We do not share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers.

5. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, posts, vehicles, and associated data are permanently deleted within 30 days. Content you have shared in community spaces (comments, forum threads) may be anonymized rather than deleted to preserve thread coherence for other users.

6. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account in the app. This is permanent and cannot be undone. Your auth credentials and personal profile are removed immediately; downstream cleanup completes within 30 days.

7. Children's privacy

Spec is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us at hello@thespec.app and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@thespec.app. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, by sending an in-app notification.
